After completing his LLB (Hons) from the University of Warwick, Coventry, England in 1990, Bernard was called to the English Bar in 1996 as a Barrister of Gray’s Inn in London. In between that period, he had worked in the Banking and Corporate sector. In 2006, he received his Master’s Degree in Law from the University of Malaya and was recently in 2020 awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in International Arbitration from the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
With over 30 years of experience, he has accomplished a number of milestones throughout his career. He had served as Head of Legal of a local bank, Legal Adviser to subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia Berhad and Group Legal Adviser to the Articulate Group of companies. He was also a partner and active litigator at Sivananthan, Advocates & Solicitors, prior to founding Messrs BH Lawrence & Co, where he is now Managing Partner and heads the Firm’s Corporate and Conveyancing Department.
Bernard presently sits on the boards of Woodrose Senior Residences Sdn Bhd and that of two public listed companies – as an Independent Non-Executive Director, Chairman of the Nomination Committee, Chairman of the ESOS Committee, member of the Risk Assessment Committee, and a Member of the Remuneration Committee in Iskandar Waterfront City Berhad; and as a Senior Independent Non-Executive Director, Chairman of the Nomination Committee, Chairman of Remuneration Committee and Member of the Audit and Risk Assessment Committee in Knusford Berhad.
Bernard is also a Certified and Empanelled Construction Industry Adjudicator with the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC, formerly known as KLRCA) and is an active Construction Adjudicator.
